2 of my pieces will be on display as part of the Command + Shift + Four event at Gagosian’t Gallery (60 E Monroe #3708, Chicago, IL 60603) from June 21st - July 21st, 2013. Opening reception is this Friday, 7pm-10pm. RSVP on Facebook. If you come out, I will show you all my favorite apps for making glitch art on my phone.

Command + Shift + Four utilizes screen captures as a new media, bringing this emerging art form into the gallery by seeking to answer the questions, “where does digital media exist? Does it have to be communicated through another medium?” Artists have sought the answer in different ways, creating tangible objects or electing that they remain in the digital realm. Data relies on its processed expression to become something more so that we can fully interpret and appreciate.
The exhibition Command + Shift + Four takes altered screenshots from twenty-two selected international artists (from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Mozambique, and Greece) to explore the nuanced differences between a physical gallery and cyberspace.
heradas sent me a message here on tumblr saying they dug my artwork (never had that happen before!), so i’ve remixed their avatar. they have excellent iOS glitch art too. recommended and thanks! 👾
About
Despite a formal education in Computer Science, I struggle to articulate clearly through programming languages. Instead, expression comes most naturally through audio and visual arts, all self-taught. I perform as royb0t, with output in the styles of Industrial, Drum & Bass and Glitch. Visual design emphasizes compression errors, grain and heavy reprocessing often only using iPhone photography apps.
Across both the aural or sonic realms, works often explore the relationship (and potential loss) of self within the everchanging landscape of technological advances, constant media consumption and the mirroring of organisms and electronic systems. With influences spanning Digital Hardcore Recordings and New Aesthetic artwork, the riotous outcry of the being finds itself often in parallel with the mechanics of nature, production and consumerism.
I also really like iCarly.
